UGUIS
A small iOS work about passing time, with a rising and falling tide and a bush warbler that calls when you pause.
The project
I built a water surface where touch creates ripples that spread, meet and fade. The tide moves independently of interaction, revealing small lights as the water recedes. A recording of lake waves and responsive touch sounds accompany the wordless scene.
How it works
Touch sets ripples in motion
Touching the app’s water creates ripples and small sounds, and restarts the wait for the bird call.
Time moves the tide
The tide rises and falls independently of touch, gradually revealing small lights beneath the water as it recedes.
Stillness brings the bird call
After a period without touch, a locally synthesised bush warbler call sounds as though it comes from a distance.
The water is rendered locally, with synthesised sounds that respond to touch. The bird call uses the Web Audio API and sounds in the distance after a period without interaction; touching the water again restarts the wait.
Small controls provide sound settings and an information sheet, and the experience works offline. The bundled water recording has documented source and licensing information.
What the records show
The signed build has been exported and uploaded, with its description, review walkthrough and support pages prepared. The work makes room both for touching the water and for watching the tide without doing anything.
What this covers
Submitted to the App Store and awaiting review before release.
